Pop Quiz, Monday with Sonia Majkic

Sonia Majkic

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?
Sonia Majkic

What is your job role?
Co-Founder and Managing Director of 3 Phase Marketing

Tell us about your company?
3 Phase Marketing is a data-driven digital marketing agency that was created with the goal of helping companies discover their competitive advantage. Today, 3PM is a Google Partner, Facebook Certified and has a diverse range of clients, including well-known brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Land Rover, Toyota, Audi dealerships and OBrien Real Estate. We deliver strategic integrated marketing solutions with our services that include in-house creative, website development, SEM, programmatic, paid social, social media content management, media buying, account management, and data analysis.

What do you love most about your job?
I love the creativity. I love generating ideas and watching them come to life and take form through collaborating with the team. I love watching the agency create amazing things for our clients; it’s very energising. It’s also hard to beat the feeling of influencing our client’s success. Watching our clients reach their goals and knowing we had a hand in that, that’s a great feeling.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
the team. I can’t wait to see what they come up with every day and seeing them smash goals is truly special to me.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
My co-workers inspire me with their curiosity and intelligence. They’re constantly pulling rabbits out of hats, and it’s impressive to watch. They have so much drive and passion, they genuinely want to succeed for our clients and have such unique skills, they are all such assets and are constantly amazing me.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
We don’t take ourselves too seriously. We find and create humour every single day and keep it light-hearted.

We also make sure to take time to occasionally put our tools down and do something as a team. In the past, this has included day trips to wineries, tree surfing, gym sessions, and team lunches. We also celebrate every birthday and achievement in the office, so there’s a lot of cake always going around.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
There are so many challenges when running a business! One is definitely staying at the forefront of all technology. The digital space is constantly changing and innovating, and it’s a challenge keeping up. We know we have to – and we do, we pride ourselves on that – but that’s not saying it’s easy.

Another challenge is attracting the best talent in the industry. We have such a great company culture here so when we find someone they are absorbed right into the company and gel with the team – keeping people around isn’t hard but making sure we get the absolute right people for roles is a feat.

Lastly, the biggest challenge in our day-to-day is ensuring we meet our client’s expectations. That’s just non-negotiable for us here at 3PM.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
As an agency, we have learnt collectively that we need to establish objectives and KPIs with our clients before we start diving into marketing strategies and campaigns. Often what we may view as success may be interpreted completely differently to our clients, so clear communication before implementation has become key.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting out in your industry?
My advice would be to remain open-minded and flexible. In the online space, things are rapidly fluctuating and changing, so you need to stay agile and adaptable – otherwise, you won’t stay afloat.

When you’re first starting out, it’s important to look to collaborate with people and other businesses that share the same values as you. Network and learn from people around you, especially from those who are more experienced and successful within your field.
