Pop Quiz, Monday with Joe Zhou

Joe Zhou

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?
Joe Zhou

What is your job role?

Tell us about your company?
We are a start-up in the pharmaceutical delivery space. Our app myMedKit deliver prescriptions to your door on-demand. We believe in everyone should be able to access medicine at home with a touch of a button when they are sick.

What do you love most about your job?
Creating a healthier world is my passion. Doing something, I am passionate about is very important.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
Working towards a common goal in order to achieve our long term dream.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
They are very dedicated and talented in different fields. For a start-up, it is important for everyone to wear different hats and develop different skill sets. The cross learning and sharing of expertise have been very beneficial.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
Done a prank once on one of the co-founders. He is always late in the morning, so we had two of our intern students contact him to say they are locked outside because no one was here. When he rushed in, he realises it was a prank, and everyone is here already. Needless to say, not very impressed.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
Recruitment and finding the right person that believes in our vision.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Always release a minimal viable product first and not try to make everything perfect at launch.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting out in your industry?
Having a long term vision is important but enjoying the process to achieve that is the key.

Be prepared for dedication and sacrifice, especially when no one understands what you are trying to do. You have to convince yourself what you are doing is solving a problem for the world.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
