The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.
I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.
Can you please tell everyone your name?
What is your job role?
Inbound Marketing Growth Strategist
Tell us about your company?
Ironpaper is a growth agency that works with our clients to accelerate the sales pipeline with inbound marketing strategy. Primarily we work with B2B technology companies to increase the conversion rate, number of total leads, and qualified leads.
What do you love most about your job?
Inbound marketing strategy is constantly evolving and changing. I love being challenged on a daily basis to think critically when presented with opportunities. Each client has a different sales process, product, and ideal buyer. By working across several accounts, I’m able to get exposure to industry leaders across industries. The team at Ironpaper is also great in allowing employees the opportunity to grow and refine skill sets by working on multiple retainers and tasks.
What motivates you to get up everyday and go to work?
Being able to have a role that allows me to solve problems and always looking to iterate and improve. I love that I can work with my team and challenge each other to learn, adapt and grow.
How do your co-workers inspire you?
I find inspiration from my co-workers on a regular basis. In order to meet client expectations, a fully dedicated team is required. Everyone on the team has a defined role that allows us to create measurable growth for clients. Seeing my co-workers shine in their roles by challenging each other is very inspiring.
How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
We have a happy hour on Fridays at 4 PM. For Christmas this year, we got into groups and went shopping for “Angel Tree” children. The National Whitewater Center is just down the road and we’ve taken workdays to go kayak. You have to work to build a successful team, and having structured times/events to allow a work family to enjoy each others company is vital.
What are some of the challenges of your job?
Inbound marketing is something that continues to iterate and must be constantly monitored and optimized. It’s a long term marketing strategy that is proven, but we also want to accelerate growth for clients. It’s a difficult balancing act between client expectations and proving value early while focusing on foundational elements that will set them up for long term success.
What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Success doesn’t mean anything if you don’t analyze it like you do with failures. Failures are often most heavily scrutinized when it comes to learning something from a campaign. If you don’t understand the steps that led to success, you will not be able to replicate and sustain success.
What advice would you give to some one who is starting out in your industry?
You have to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations. In order for you to begin to realize your potential, you can’t live in a shelter of where you’re comfortable. Trying things out and failing is the best way to learn. If you have the drive and awareness, you won’t make the same mistake twice and you’ll grow exponentially.
