Pop Quiz, Monday with Kirsty Milligan

Kirsty Milligan

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?
Kirsty Milligan

What is your job role?
Managing Director, Stylist

Tell us about your company?
I am a solo entrepreneur. My business is Kirsty Milligan – Stylist. I help professionals and entrepreneurs with leadership presence that influences on sight.

What do you love most about your job?
I love watching the confidence grow in my clients. I love seeing them recognise their own powerful presence. It’s quite an intimate and emotional journey that unlocks self-limiting beliefs. It’s incredible to watch so much change in such a short period of time.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
Knowing that there are still so many people I can help.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
As a solo-entrepreneur, it can be an isolated game. I’ve made sure I have a core group of strong and caring women who will call me on my bs as required.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
Oh my goodness! I get to go shopping for a living and be on stage – I don’t think there’s anything more fun for me on the planet. This business is all of my favourite things rolled into one. Then I get to come home to my beautiful three and half-year-old twins. Just add chocolate. There, perfect!

What are some of the challenges of your job?
It really is hard to take a break. The phone is always attached, social media is always beckoning, the ‘to do list’ is always growing. Refilling the cup is probably the hardest thing to do.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Relationships over outcomes. How you make people feel will always be more important than the amount of things you did.
Nurture your relationships first.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting out in your industry?
Find your the path that highlights your special gifts. There’s a diverse range of opportunities in the fashion industry. There’s even a diverse range of stylists. Don’t think that you have to be everything to everyone. Find your niche, the thing you love doing best of all, that you’re magical at and move in that direction.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
