Pop Quiz, Monday with Eva Wintersberger

Eva Wintersberger

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?
Eva Wintersberger

What is your job role?
Founder Tree Hut Village

Tell us about your company?
Tree Hut Village is a peer to peer platform that allows parents to rent baby equipment from each other. Parents can hire for their trips away, try a different brand before they buy it and hire locally if they don’t want to take their pram with them on a plane.

What do you love most about your job?
I love that we enable parents (and often mums) to get a bit of extra cash to treat themselves or to save towards their next holiday. I love the personal interactions that I get to have every day and that we hire so many talented mums – their preferred hours (evening / weekends) really work for us as that’s when they are more available also.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
It’s an exciting journey that we are on at the moment. We have grown a lot since we launched in Feb 2017 and it is an interesting journey that we are on. I can’t wait to see what 2019 brings.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
They all bring such different qualities to the business. I’m not as detail-oriented and more of a big picture person which means that I appreciate the focus that they bring to the team. I also love how everyone is juggling work and their family life in a more sustainable way these days.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
At the moment that’s probably something that is left behind a little, to be honest. A lot of our team works remotely (across Austalia), so I sometimes send them a little “surprise and delight” present in the mail, but it’s something to work on further!

What are some of the challenges of your job?
Prioritisation! Where to put our funds to maximise our growth is probably the biggest challenge.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
That you can’t just build a product and your clients will come. You have to actively work (very hard) to attract your (right) clientele, and you’re never finished!

What advice would you give to someone who is starting out in your industry?
Make sure that you understand exactly if your business is not just a great idea but also a great business, i.e. that you can make money from it in the long run.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
