The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

Tell us about your company?
I am an author and motivational business networking speaker. I show people how to leverage their own personal psychology and unique skill set for success through networking.
What do you love most about your job?
I LOVE to encourage people to connect with other people in business and life. Networking has so much “baggage” with it, but it’s simply building relationships that will help ourselves and others live our lives better and easier.
What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
I’m so grateful to be alive and able to do things and say things that help make life easier or more meaningful for other people.
How do your co-workers inspire you?
I’m inspired by everyone around me who is working hard and doing their best, especially those who have struggles and obstacles (which is just about everyone).
How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
I like to make people laugh! So I enjoy telling dramatic or funny stories, and I like to make funny, off the wall comments about everyday office life.
What are some of the challenges of your job?
There’s so much to do! It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, so one thing I do is narrow my focus down to just ONE thing at a time. I pretend like there’s nothing else pending, just this one thing and that’s all I need to do.
What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
I’ve learned that there aren’t just two kinds of networkers (introverts and extroverts). There are so many different personality styles, and yet we expect everyone to fit into a particular mold of networking. No wonder so many people are frustrated and feel like they aren’t successful or able to be good at networking. So I’ve learned that everyone is unique and they already have skills that they can apply to networking and building powerful relationships that will help them in life and business.
What advice would you give to someone who is starting out in your industry?
Here’s the advice I would give to someone who is just starting out in networking, whether they are new to the business world or in a job search:
Don’t just “wing it!” Have a strategy to be deliberate and intentional about your networking. Find and learn from people who are doing a great job at networking who are LIKE YOU in their personality and their style. Don’t try to be just like that super flashy loud extrovert if that’s not your style. There are many ways you can build relationships and network. Go out and find them!
