The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?
Claire Pearson

What is your job role?
I am a life/business coach for female entrepreneurs who are looking to maximize their profits and/or monetize hobbies while still maintaining work/life balance.

Tell us about your company?
My company serves mostly women who are choosing to live a full life. My clients are driven to pursue a career and create unlimited earning potential but not at the expense of their relationships, health or parenting time. I work with my clients to create/streamline systems that can free up more time for their personal goals while also looking at how to increase revenue and profitability with their business goals.

What do you love most about your job?
I love being of service to my clients. Seeing someone launch a product or service that they have been dreaming about is so rewarding. Or watching someone reclaim their time so they can spend more time with their kids, or travel and play are truly satisfying. Knowing that I helped make someone else’s dreams come true is what I love most about my job.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
I love the variety of my professional life grants me. Each client is different, and so every session is unique. I genuinely love getting to know people and find ways to help them think differently about their current situation(s), so they can find a solution that will work for them. Because of the variety, I never get bored.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
My team members are young, and I enjoy being around them and learning things like “Facebook is for old people.” I know a lot of people complain about millennials, but I find them to be transparent, sincere and willing to work as a team collaboratively.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
I like being silly. One time I took a team member out to dinner and much to her surprise, showed up in a chicken suit. It was made even funnier by the fact that another team member wore a gorilla suit. She was mortified, but we had the best time. I still have that picture in my office and look at it every day as a reminder to have fun while you work.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
My job is challenging because my clients do not always come in at the same time each week. Every week is different from the perspective of how many hours I have in front of clients, and how many hours I have left over to take care of administrative and marketing tasks. It requires a lot of time management to maintain the workload I carry and still be available for my personal goals and for my children.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
I am highly intuitive, and I tend to attract intuitive clients. One thing that I have learned personally, and then I see this repeatedly with clients, is the need to use data to confirm your “hunches.” Intuitives tend to trust their gut and run with it and sometimes that’s not best practice when dealing with finances, legal contracts, etc. I encourage all my intuitive to trust their gut, but then go find the data that backs up what they think. Often they can’t, and that leads them to make a different and better decision in the long-run.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Define who you want to work with. When I was starting out, I would take anyone who wanted to work with me because I was scared I would go broke if I didn’t. However, a lot of the people who wanted to work with me drained me. I didn’t enjoy them. I started realizing that my ideal client is usually female, has kids and a partner, is ambitious, driven, smart and tends to be an over-achiever. Once I began to market my services to this specific niche, I found I enjoyed all of my clients. I am not afraid to tell someone that I am not a good fit for them if I need to because it isn’t worth working with someone I don’t feel excited about.
