The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

Amber Renae Inc. is an e-learning platform that helps upcoming entrepreneurs create freedom. It’s targeted to coaches, consultants, freelancers and any small business owner that wants to become more visible in their brand and grow their brand through paid media and sales funnels.
What do you love most about your job?
Almost every day I get feedback or emails from one of my students saying how I’ve completely changed their life, given them more confidence than they’ve ever had, and helped them set up a true freedom based lifestyle. There is nothing better!
What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
The fact that it never feels like work. I can’t remember the last time I woke up and went to ‘work.’ Granted I probably spend more hours working on my business than most people ever do at their day job, but it never feels like something I ‘have’ to do.
How do your co-workers inspire you?
Collaboration is the key to success. They are all so talented at what they do and really inspire me each day to be a better leader for them.
How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
We do a lot of beauty and pamper treatments at work! Facials, hair masks, yoga sessions. Anything to make us feel good!
What are some of the challenges of your job?
The greatest challenge, in the beginning, was the cash flow. Unfortunately, as a creative, it’s typically the last thing we’re interested in focusing on. We want to do all the fun, creative stuff, but bookkeeping and accounting are about as far from fun as you can get in my opinion! But if you’re not taking good care of your money, then the universe can’t give you more to take care of.
Another challenge is the difficulties and disasters, as entrepreneurship is fraught with both! You need to train yourself to become exceptionally resilient and develop a high pain tolerance. I see so many people starting businesses who get one or two knock-backs then decide it’s all too hard! But that’s all apart of the journey of entrepreneurship!
What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
I turned away from a solid, stable, high-paying career as a civil engineer to chase my dreams of working in the fashion industry. My successful fashion line went bankrupt due to a manufacturing error, and I was diagnosed with cancer, ulcers and was on anti-depressants.
I then launched my fashion styling business and went to hold two of the best positions in the country for that industry, only to lose both roles in a matter of weeks due to the GFC, and to be left with nothing, again.
I’m now in my third business where I educate hundreds of people across the globe, which taught me that sheer grit and determination would get you to where you need to be.
I’ve also learnt from these past situations that vision, minded and mindfulness makes up at least 80% of your success as a business owner. If you get your head straight and eliminate all your fears, stay focused and positive, that’s a majority of the work done. The universe will do the rest for you.
What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
You need to develop immense self-awareness. Figure out your strengths and weaknesses. From there, focus on maximising your strengths whilst outsourcing your weaknesses. You don’t have to be good at everything, and you shouldn’t be afraid to ask for help by outsourcing the things you’re not good at.
