Pop Quiz, Monday with Sarah Mooney

Sarah Mooney

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?
Sarah Mooney

What do you love most about your job?
The opportunity to think outside of the box, and stretch new ideas.

We’re replacing 40-year-old wire transfers with new technology. Working within a unique industry, means I’m able to test multiple channel and strategies to examine what works best for us.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
Honestly, I’m so hungry to impress my Co-Founders. I get very amped to share new data with them, and I’m always excited to be one step closer to finishing a project.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
I’m inspired by how dedicated my co-workers are. They manage their time wisely and put in the extra hours, and efforts required without ever asking. All in the effort to make sure we’re one step closer to reaching our goal.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
Every Friday our team gathers together to enjoy “Scotch Friday.” This short, yet fun hour gives us the opportunity to loosen up and celebrate the work we accomplished throughout the week.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
I started my marketing career working in the automotive industry – it was B2C, which I thought was a walk in the park. Since leaving the world of fast cars, I quickly dived deep into B2B. Which, ladies and gentlemen is a whole other story. I started my B2B experience working with Treemarc – a Toronto-based packaging startup. I found the experience to be very rewarding and felt that I hacked the packaging industry. Yet, REMITR is a whole other beast. It’s an industry that is completely foreign and old strategies don’t seem to work anymore. The biggest challenge is definitely trying to finesse new strategies, and taking a new approach.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Start affiliate marketing ASAP. It’s a channel that is very rewarding, but it takes a few months to really pick up.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting out in your industry?
Consider the competitive competition, and prepare yourself for a lot of trial and error.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
