Pop Quiz, Monday with Brittan Leiser

Brittan Leiser

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?
Brittan Leiser

What is your job role?
Financial Advisor, and blogger behind http://www.FinancialAdvisher.com

Tell us about your company?
One Seven is a Registered Investment Advisor located in Beachwood, Ohio. We are a team of financial planners and advisors who help our clients responsibly and strategically plan for their futures. One Seven builds relationships that build legacies around the things people genuinely care about — through a holistic commitment to personal and financial growth.

What do you love most about your job?
I am passionate about helping clients understand their financial options to achieve their true potential. I really enjoy cultivating strong relationships, solving complex problems, and feel most rewarded when I can help others prepare for and live their most meaningful lives.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
I am a big believer in people and genuinely enjoy building and fostering relationships. I am very passionate about helping individuals understand their financial health and enjoy assisting them as they achieve their goals so that, ultimately, they can live the lives they have always imagined. Nothing is more rewarding to me than making someone live out their purpose and feel worthwhile.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
I am always inspired by the work my co-workers do not only with their clients but also in the community. Several of our co-workers volunteer regularly and are committed to making a difference in any way that they can. Other co-workers of mine are making a difference in the lives of their clients. They help parents plan for the education needs of their children and also help individuals get started with a solid financial foundation.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
We enjoy one another’s company. We keep the office environment very casual and aim to make the community a very welcome place.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
It is no secret that the stock market and economic conditions fluctuate rapidly. It can be a challenge to manage clients’ expectations and continue to build a realistic path forward.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
I’ve learned that actually to understand a client’s true financial goals, you must listen…and I mean, actively listen! I have worked with clients before who felt fairly confident that they knew what course of action to take, but after I actively listened to what hopes and dreams they had in mind, I began to realize that what they say they valued differed greatly from what they actually needed. I learned a valuable lesson in that case that people (like the stock market) can be unpredictable and emotional about their finances. It is my job to ask the right questions and listen so that I can best provide recommendations that get to the root of what my clients need.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Ask questions. To me, the only dumb question is the one you don’t ask. If you’re just starting out, take the time to ask questions, read as much as you can, and truly listen to what your clients are saying. You’ll learn so much in the process that will help set you up for success later on.
