The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Ashley Ann

What is your job role?
I assist small business owners, entrepreneurs,& startup companies in building and monetizing their Facebook, Instagram, & Live Stream platforms.

Tell us about your company?
Ashley Ann Speaks creates digital products and services. We consult, manage, and educate on business, strategy, growth, social media marketing, product creation, digital branding, funnels, ads, and target audience building.

What do you love most about your job?
My favorite part is helping so many people manifest their dreams. It is beyond fulfilling to watch our clients build their confidence, make sales, smash their goals, understand concepts, and get paid to do things they thoroughly enjoy.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
I love what I do. It is as simple as that. I just really love what I do.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
I think the coolest thing about us is that we are from different parts of the country and the world. We are varying in ages and life experience. So we have many unique ways of viewing things and getting them done. I find that I’m incredibly inspired by their perspectives, creative suggestions, preferences, and communication styles.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
We have a super relaxed environment & pretty non-judgmental. I think everyone feels at ease because I make it clear that I have their backs and trust their decisions. I typically give the team freedom. I also ask for suggestions every week during the team meeting, & we have check-ins. Before I assign projects, I ask how comfortable everyone is with their task. I think this has lead to the team feeling empowered and confident, which has led to people also being empowered to be themselves, which leads to fun. We celebrate milestones, anniversary’s, birthdays, etc… We crack jokes & laugh about things in our day to day & We take annual trips together to just relax, go to concerts, play sports, ATVs, etc.. We also have different spiritual paths, but we come together and pray before we exit our team meetings. I think this has fostered a stronger bond among us. We have a safe environment, so we are comfortable with one another.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
One of the biggest challenges is bad projects. Everyone doesn’t work the way you do, and sometimes not as hard as you do, or they don’t have the same standards of quality. I have found myself participating in a few projects that I wished were ending sooner than later…
I also think the second is the troll culture that is involved on social media. When you put yourself out there on a public platform, you get fantastic people, but you also get some horrible & harsh keyboard thugs. Sometimes they say very sexual and inappropriate things or extremely racist things. I’m human, just like everyone else and on occasion I have days it catches me off guard & really has to work hard not to be offensive back.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
The primary lesson I have learned is to define what each person’s role is and timelines clearly.

Having regular check-ins so everyone knows what they are doing and if any shifts or changes happen everyone can adjust.

Also clearly defining promotional expectations, so no one is disappointed or feels unsupported.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting out in your industry?
Do your research. Learning social media monetization is more than hashtags and photos. There is lots of information out there about strategy, software, tools, systems, and apps. If there is a term or concept, you don’t understand research or ask. Put together a plan so that you are not overwhelmed. Give your plan time to work & check to see how close to your benchmarks. Finally be consistent. I know it shows cliché, but be consistent with everything, your content, posting, hashtags, awareness campaigns, emails, call to actions, everything!
