Pop Quiz, Monday with Adrian Falk
The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.
I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.
Can you please tell everyone your name?
What is your job role?
Founder and Director of Believe Advertising & PR
Tell us about your company?
Seventeen years ago, I began Believe Advertising & PR after returning from New York where I worked in the industry for several years. We are now an internationally experienced company that provides a one-stop-shop for all publicity needs. From implementing creative PR campaigns to creating social media content, from connecting brands to celebrities and famous bloggers to making the press obsess over your products, we do it all, and we do it well.
What do you love most about your job?
This job has given me the opportunity to connect with many amazing people and celebrities that I would never have met otherwise. We love getting to know great people of all walks of life through our work.
We have also developed many giving initiatives in honour of our wonderful clients, and we’re dedicated to donating to charities each month and giving back to those in need. We’ve given shoes to children in Fiji and clean water and healthy meals to families in need. Being able to give back is without a doubt the best part about my job.
What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
I genuinely love PR and helping my clients make their dreams become a reality. This job provides me with an outlet for my creativity. I enjoy finding ways to personalise each client’s PR campaign, and it makes things different and exciting for me every day. We make a difference in our clients’ businesses, and that motivates me to keep working and bring them as much success as I can while having fun when I do it.
How do your co-workers inspire you?
We are a small team, and that makes us pretty close. I am continuously surprised and grateful for my hard-working employees. Each one of them is so kind and creative, and they inspire me to do better every day.
How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
Taking trips to visit clients is always fun for me. Working with watch brand SEIKO and HEAD Tennis has allowed me to work with Novak Djokovic three times now. Novak is one of the most inspiring people I’ve met, and it’s been a privilege to get to know him. We also find fun in everyday interactions and celebrating the successes of our clients.
What are some of the challenges of your job?
The challenge every industry faces is keeping up with the evolving world of technology and trends. We must continually adapt our publicity methods and strategies as new trends develop. Digital media is more important than anything else nowadays, so we must always refine our tech skills. Being ahead of the times is crucial, and we do that by researching current fads, reevaluating what we’re doing and continually being involved in formal training.
What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that honesty is always the best approach. If I am unable to help a client, I will be truthful and let them know why. If I believe a certain publicity strategy would be most beneficial for their success, I have no problem being completely open about those opinions. My authenticity is one of my strengths, so I make sure portray that through my honest and transparent communication style.
What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
My biggest advice to others is to believe in yourself. When I started out, I had no clients and had to cold call companies during the day while working at a call centre at night to make ends meet. But by believing in my talents and skills, I have created my own business and found much success. I make sure to always believe in my clients even when they are just starting out because I know from experience that it is possible. Never stop believing that you can do whatever you set your mind to.
