Pop Quiz, Monday with Andreea Stroie

Andreea Stroie

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?

What is your job role?
Co-founder of FreshForPandas

What do you love most about your job?

I love the constant challenge. We’re a (very) lean team: 2 co-founders supported by freelancers all the way. So every day is a new venture into the unknown, and we’re thankful for that most of the time. We’ve become experts in things we wouldn’t have dreamt about: branding, supply chains, digital marketing, and the list is continuously evolving. Since both of us were previously doing the corporate 9-to-5 grind, we’re delighted to be the creators a very dynamic workspace.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?

Everything. To be honest, there’s not much motivation to go to bed at night, and there are times when I wish I could skip sleeping so I can get back to work. But more specifically, since I mentioned we’re planning to be the first 100% plastic free eyewear brand at an affordable price, we have a long way to go to source all the materials that we consider fit for purpose and incorporate them into our designs. But I know that when we get there, it will have been worth it.

How do your co-workers inspire you?

The other half of FreshForPandas, JP, is both my business and my life partner. Which is always is a dangerous combination, but for us, it’s worked wonders. We breathe, eat and sleep the business, continually strategizing new ways to improve our brand, so I could say that most of my inspiration comes from my co-workers.

What are some of the challenges of your job?

When we started the company, one of our strategic decisions was to keep the company as lean for as long as possible and work with free-lancers whenever the need arises. It’s proven to be quite difficult to motivate a temporary team member.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?

Have a unique approach to your product or service. You don’t need to re-invent the wheel, just give the wheel a new spin. Retail and fashion are over-saturated with brands, high-street shops are closing due to the momentous rise of e-commerce, so when you decide to take the leap, you need to truly have a unique feel for either the way your brand your product, or how you design it. Design-first brands are killing it right now.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
