Pop Quiz, Monday with Rodney Koop

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?

What is your job role?
Dreamer, which is my actual title. My job is to look ahead and keep us on course. I’m also the CEO, and I believe that the job of the CEO is to protect and maximize profit. I look for ways to maximize our industry position and intellectual property.

Tell us about your company?
The New Flat Rate is a done-for-you menu pricing system to make it easier for technicians in the electrical, heating and air conditioning or plumbing business to give customers options easily on every service call or equipment replacement opportunity.

What do you love most about your job?
Making contractors happy. Believe me, having been a struggling contractor I know the feeling of being tired and broke. We change that permanently.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
Our work is exciting, our team of 15 members is excited, the industry is jumping, and our 500 clients finally have the money they always believed they could have.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
Everyone tries to find the highest and best use of their time, and we all help each other. We understand that inside each of us are seeds of greatness. We look for great ideas, great work and great growth in each other.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
We laugh, we sing, and we meet each morning to talk about our customers and how best to help them. We dress up for Christmas and Halloween, and we dress down for Fridays. We share life experiences and dreams. We might go to a shooting range one day and a symphony another day. But caring for and appreciating each other is where it starts.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
Communicating with our prospects in a way that makes sense to them not just to me.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Anyone who has worked with developers to create software or an app knows that the challenge of meeting goals and deadlines is difficult to manage. Also, the larger your company is, the more expensive mistakes can be so we try to test heavy before we implement.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting out in your industry?
Find your niche and go to levels of expertise you didn’t even know existed. Turn off the TV, and turn on the study habits. Those who succeed do it by simply working harder, smarter and with more tenacity than those around them.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
