Pop Quiz, Monday with Rex Kimball

Rex Kimball

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?

What is your job role?
Owner and operator of Mirex Marketing.

Tell us about your company?
Mirex Marketing provides all aspects of digital marketing including paid and organic search engine marketing, paid and organic social media marketing, and paid and organic content marketing, as well as website development and email marketing. We’ve been in business for over five years serving clients in multiple different verticals, but the most common are health, automotive, home services and other local businesses.

What do you love most about your job?
I love working with business owners and seeing how other businesses operate. I love helping those businesses grow and seeing the positive effect it has on the families involved with those businesses.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
My family is my motivation. Owning a business is something I’ve always wanted, but there is still a lot of work to be done to get it where I want it. I need to be getting to the point where I’m working on it more than in it. So that goal is another motivation.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
My co-workers all work remotely, and it’s my job to inspire them. One key is always to be positive and appreciative of the work they do. I also get professional inspiration from colleagues, associates, and other successful business owners, as well as spiritual inspiration from spiritual leaders.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
My entire team works remotely, and I work from home so I don’t exactly have the office atmosphere that this question might be intended for.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
Keeping myself on track and being accountable I think is a challenge for all business owners or anyone who is self-employed.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
One client gave us an ad budget that was too big to start, and we should have eased him into it instead of starting where he told us to start. That’s a hard balance because you want to give them what they want but what they want is not always best, and it’s partially our job to advise them. I don’t think we’ll ever make that mistake again. There are all kinds of clients, and some are easier to work with than others for various reasons.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Keep up. It’s always changing. Be honest with your clients and clear about the services you provide.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
