The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.
I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.
Can you please tell everyone your name?
What is your job role?
Founder and CEO
Tell us about your company?
Her Organics is a subscription-based tampon company which takes the hassle out of periods. Women can subscribe for just $9.99 a month, including postage, and they will receive a month worth of tampons delivered right to their door. We’re creating convenience for women during their most vulnerable times.
What do you love most about your job?
I love the start-up phase. Being quite a creative person, I really enjoy bringing bands to life, firstly envisioning how I want the brand to look and how I want the brand to make people feel, then making it come to life. I love feeling challenged because I get off on the feeling of overcoming them. Every day is a new opportunity to create something amazing, and I’m grateful with my line of work that this is possible.
What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
Being that I work for myself, I really have no choice but to work hard, because unfortunately, my bills won’t pay themselves! Another huge motivation for me every day is the number of people that I am inspiring on my journey. To know that I am inspiring people to live their best life is honestly one of the greatest things. When you love what you do you really never feel like you’re working. I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. I have the best job in the world.
What are some of the challenges of your job?
Challenges are inevitable and quite possibly one of my favorite parts of business because for me without a challenge I find business boring. Some challenges include continually having the ability to come up with new ideas, new ways of portraying a product and contently innovating and developing a current product to ensure we’re evolving with current trends.
What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Firstly, make sure you are legally secure. If you’re going into partnership with someone, make sure you put some capital aside so you can afford to get a shareholders agreement drawn up, set up your company correctly and even get legal advice if you don’t understand what these things mean. Trust me when I say it’s the most important part.
What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Be fearless. Don’t ever think “what if it doesn’t work.” Failure isn’t an option, ever. Create a plan, understand the path you need to take and jump in the deep end. The only way you will ever learn is by doing. Who cares if you haven’t studied business, I never have. Learn as you go, self educate and believe in what you are doing. Fake it until you make it and as I always say, act confident, and nobody will ever question you.
