The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

What is your job role?
Founder/Marketing Manager

Tell us about your company?
miracle marketing is a boutique online marketing company that caters strictly to small businesses and start-ups. Our core model is that some of the most significant ideas changed the course of human history without a ton of initial capital, so we emphasize optimizing small budgets.

What do you love most about your job?
I love working with people. I was in corporate marketing for over five years doing all facets of marketing management. I realized that my purpose was to work with people instead of for them. So I broke free and started my own company, and now I work with amazing people all across the country!

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
Passion and fulfillment. If you love what you do, and you know it’s right for you, then motivation is organic.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
I work mostly with clients. They’re all unique in their own way, but they all have immense drive and passion for what they do. They inspire me to put that much energy, passion, and pride in my company as well.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
My clients and I are friends more than we are business partners. We laugh and joke with each other, say “wow I need a drink,” or talk about hilarious past mistakes we’ve made in business. Relationship building is very important, and it makes collaboration so much easier!

What are some of the challenges of your job?
For me, personally, it’s taking critique. I can be a perfectionist at times, so when something comes back to me that needs to be fixed to fit the clients needs more, I always take it personally. That’s just the natural process of contract work, so I need to overcome that.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Certain projects can’t be finished in certain timetables. Trying to force that, whether with clients, in your corporate job, or even in life, in general, is not a good approach, and the final products end up looking shoddy. Always make your project timetables be able to accommodate your best work!

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
For someone who is just starting out in Marketing, I would suggest that they be mindful of what their niche in Marketing may be. There are so many different areas of marketing, and if find that you’re pigeonholed into an area that you’re not right for, you could start to experience job dissatisfaction.

If you’re more of a create, explore copywriting, content marketing or advertising. If you’re more of a strategist, explore marketing strategy, marketing management, or consumer behavior. Take the time to find what feels right to you.
