The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

What is your job role?

Tell us about your company?
We help funded start-ups to sort out their technology stack by understanding their growth plans, matching this to our tech knowledge and then giving a recommendation on what to use and when. This gives Founders confidence to focus on customer acquisition and funding.

What do you love most about your job?
Seeing startups exceeding their growth targets because their team has the right tech. The end consumer or customer vote with their wallets.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
Learning about startups changing the way we live for the better and solving complex challenges not ever solved before. Of course, I love to learn new tech as well, but this is a side game!

How do your co-workers inspire you?
My Co-Founder is a tech genius who lives in the business world. He looks for ‘ holes and drills.’ His is the best in the world at what he does and is always pushing the limit. I am also inspired by our team who believe in what we are doing and give their all.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
We all work remotely, so coming together once a year in person is a real blast. Through the year there are always GIFs which tell a thousand words. I am the prankster and have many accents to call and complain as a client. Breaks the mood when the stress is on.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
SALES SALES and SALES. In all seriousness, we could always do with more qualified leads to inject cash to build the team and our research. We roll the dice and put on resources, and for excellent reasons, client circumstances change, and we need to fund the gap. At Coca-Cola, we used to call it fixing the plane whilst you are flying it.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Scope creep. Wanting to do the right thing by clients and the team and when it doesn’t come off, our owner’s drawings are hit. We love innovating and creating global 1sts, but this doesn’t always come off.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
All about your team: hire, develop and reward great people, and the revenue will come. Sure you have heard that before – but it is true. Also, stand for something you believe in and would do if you weren’t getting paid. Better to be a large fish in a small pond than too generic. On the flip side, you need to get paid and manage your financials. Always a balancing act.
