Pop Quiz, Monday with Orlando Cintra

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?
Orlando Cintra

What is your job role?
Angel Investor, among others

Tell us about your company?
I work with some investment funds and groups. The main one is Gavea Angels, based in Brazil. We look for tech startups to invest looking to support more and more the “new digital economy.”

What do you love most about your job?
Innovation is in my blood, so every day I can see new companies and people that believe that they can transform the world in a better place – and the reality is that they can really do it!

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
Think that we can always do better to prepare the world to be a better place. The concept of Abundance is very strong, and I believe using the technology we can eradicate poverty, get food for everyone, minimum medical support. Level the world in an average that will be very important for poor people.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
Challenging ideas, showing that we can do better, different. The collective thinking is so critical. Ideas spark from one mind to another.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
Lunch, happy hours, dinners are always fun. But I love to get some good wines and share them with the close ones, especially when we have important moments to celebrate.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
Qualification of good ideas, try to forecast the future (which is not possible :-). Select the right startup with the best idea with a great purpose and the right person leading this startup is not an easy thing.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Sometimes the purpose of the startup is more important than the economy (money) it will generate. And the person or the team leading this startup are the soul of the company, so try to understand their “soul,” and you will understand the future of this startup.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Learn every day…there are tons of material on the internet, groups, events. In the innovation arena, people are always sharing something. Learn, share, teach what you know. If you improve something for someone, it will return for you

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
