Pop Quiz, Monday with Rajeev Sharma

The thing I love most about my job is helping our customers live their dreams! Nothing makes me happier than delighting our customers with our work and seeing their growth.

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?

What is your job role?
Co-Founder & CTO of Markovate

Tell us about your company?
Markovate Inc. helps startups and SMBs by providing them with custom digital solutions based on data-driven growth marketing strategies. Whether a business wants to increase their brand awareness or wants a complete marketing overhaul, we work closely with our clients to get the best results.

What do you love most about your job?
The thing I love most about my job is helping our customers live their dreams! Nothing makes me happier than delighting our customers with our work and seeing their growth. We are a self-made agency ourselves and know the struggle of earning new business. I love that I’m able to help other startups by coming up with a marketing strategy that works for them.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
Customer success is paramount for me as it gives me a sense of validation for our strategies and the team’s hard work. Especially since our campaigns involve following performance data and results, being able to build a client’s online presence and having them work closely with us throughout the process, motivates me to work harder on their goal every day.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
Our diverse talent inspires me because we’re able to see a problem from different angles and come up with a nuanced solution. Our empathy sets us apart in that we’re every bit as invested in a client’s product as they are. We often put our heads together to tackle a client’s problem, and everyone is always quick to give another team member praise for their ideas.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
We get a lot of work done for our amazing clients, but we never forget to have fun! We play poker, mess around with Alexa, and go on regular Timmies runs.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
Maintaining the project delivery time requires a lot of effort, and of course, a client’s needs often fluctuate and change as the project unfolds. However, I would say this keeps us going, and the challenge allows us to develop more efficient workflows.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
We are continually evaluating and learning from every project we work on for a client. The lessons we have learned are that clear communication is key with your customers, including setting the right expectations initially, so there are no surprises later. As well, we’ve learned to go above and beyond for our clients, as this prolongs our relationship and makes for more satisfied customers.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Steer clear of shiny objects and don’t fall for the latest trend. Focus on only one goal at a time. It is very easy to get distracted with lots of information on the internet and new articles every day telling you the “next big thing” in marketing. Trust your marketing team and strategy to produce the results you want.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
