Pop Quiz, Monday with Savannah Daisley

Reverse engineer absolutely everything. Product development, price points, marketing goals, campaigns, marketing funnels, copywriting, outcomes, goals. Everything.

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?
Savannah Daisley

What is your job role?
Managing Director of Smart Cleanse

Tell us about your company?
Smart Cleanse is a products based business that is helping tens of thousands of people achieve optimal health, wellness and their target weight, with our signature 14 Day Smart Cleanse, which is Australia’s only practitioner grade detox and weight loss kit available on the shelf and to the masses online. Our Smart Cleanse detox kit and products has essentially bridged the gap between the high quality and potent ‘practitioner only’ brands kept behind the counter (that you need to see a practitioner for) and the lower quality less potent programs available on the shelf to everyone that lack the practitioner grade approach to detox and weight loss.

What do you love most about your job?
I love transforming the health and weight of tens of thousands of people and sometimes being part of reversing chronic illness. The fact that optimal well-being also makes someone happier, supporting their mental health in such an incredible reward for me.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
My commitment daily to delivering a product and service that enhances the quality of life for so many of my customers. That excites me big time. That.. and my investment into a business that absolutely inspires me.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
I think they we share a similar vision of growing and expanding the brand, so get super excited with all the micro steps along the way meaning we are closer and closer to bringing the vision to fruition.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
To me conceptualising and then creating new products with my regulatory team, packaging designer and sampling them with my manufacturer, gives me a real buzz. No, no pranks. Pranking my virtual team is hard. I could call and pretend to be someone else, but that’s not my style these days, maybe when I was 13 once or twice lol.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
Raising a few hundred thousands of dollars for inventory upfront and then trying not to spend the profits. I am getting better at being lean if only I knew that when I launched. Lessons are what keeps me inspired funnily enough. I love learning. That’s what I love about this business. It’s a bigger game, and I can’t get enough of the challenge and the journey.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Reverse engineer absolutely everything. Product development, price points, marketing goals, campaigns, marketing funnels, copywriting, outcomes, goals. Everything.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Be financially lean. Negotiate hard. Know what you are doing so no one takes advantage. Reverse engineer your products, deep dive on a competitive analysis of excipients and price point, be leaner than I was. Learn as much of the strategy as possible so you can squeeze the best performance out of everything. Be strong, be confident and never quit no matter how bumpy the ride. It’s part of the journey, and you don’t need to see the whole staircase. Just have faith knowing that your end goal was reverse engineered and it will happen if you stay focused, smart, passionate and committed. There might be some obstacles that seem mammoth, but if it were too easy, then victories wouldn’t exist.
