Pop Quiz, Monday with Robert Edwards

Things always take longer than you think. Don’t sweat it. It sounds simple, but it’s impressive when you think about it how much time is spent obsessing over impossible deadlines.

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?

What is your job role?
I am an entrepreneur and business owner, currently founder and CEO of Franchise City. Last year was focused mostly on process improvements, and 2019 will be all about marketing and business growth. I also host the Nations most watched franchising channel on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/franchisecityonline.

Tell us about your company?
Franchise City helps aspiring entrepreneurs make better-informed franchise investing decisions. Most franchise buyers invest emotionally because they liked a burger or saw an advertisement. Our proprietary process helps buyers match their skills, budget, operational preferences, business goals, personality and dozens of other criteria with better suited and often more profitable franchises.

What do you love most about your job?
Seeing the results after a client has used our tools, done the research, conquered their fear, and realizes that lifelong dream of self-employment. It’s incredible to see that. We also assist foreign investors to immigrate to the USA through business investment – so helping families start new lives in the USA. That is also very satisfying to be a part of.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
Same as above! We work with a broad range of clients ranging from blue collar workers aspiring to break free of the 9 to 5, to overseas investor groups seeking licensing for an entire country. No two clients are the same. That makes for an occasionally challenging but very dynamic environment.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
I am incredibly fortunate to work with a remarkable group of entrepreneurs, business owners, and consultants. From hosting business, radio shows to operating franchises and companies I am always inspired seeing the ongoing accomplishments of the group.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
Fun? We’re consultants! That would be highly inappropriate.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
Historically we have been fortunate having experienced steady organic growth. Two thousand nineteen will be all about scaling up. Effective internet marketing is an ongoing challenge in any business.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Things always take longer than you think. Don’t sweat it. It sounds simple, but it’s impressive when you think about it how much time is spent obsessing over impossible deadlines.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Be prepared for massive changes and be adaptable.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
