The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

Tell us about your company?
Castle Debt Solutions looks at people’s circumstances and debts to give them an affordable solution. We’re a one-stop shop for all debt.
What do you love most about your job?
For me, it gives me great pleasure to help people get free of stress caused by mounting debts. The sincere thank you at the end of every call is the best.
What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
The thought of helping someone and giving them their life back. Financial hardship is something not talked about at parties. Rarely do people talk about debt and most people think it will just go away if they ignore it. We offer relief and free consultancy to people to be able to talk about debt and get years of stress off their chest.
How do your co-workers inspire you?
Well for me it is important to employ people who understand the journey of debt themselves. This isn’t about formal education as many who are in debt are formally educated. It is about empathy and the ability to talk and gather information so we can review as many solutions as possible to find the right one for our clients. Barbara is a great example and has been with me from the start. Barbara knew nothing about the debt solutions sector, but she was a great conversationalist. Barbara is now our no one employee with a growth mindset and a can-do attitude to boot. So proud of how far she has come.
How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
I’m pretty flexible at work. I treat my employees as a family, so we like to laugh and joke around, but it is essential to ensure that the client always comes first.
What are some of the challenges of your job?
I think our clients are challenging. We work with formal solutions that are written into government legislation, so this is the law. It frustrates me when a client doesn’t progress due to being told by people its a scam. We make sure that every client is the ones who decide on what solution they would like to move forward with. We give lots of info and make sure that the client has time to read it in time for the next call.
What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
I understand that we cannot control the outcome for our clients. We cannot create the value of commitment for our clients. I now make it a part of our process to ensure that the client is committed to wanting to find a solution or we may as well end the call.
What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
I think being patient is the best advice. I also think to follow your vision of what you want to create and stick to it. Hard work beats talent most of the time. Also, review and provide feedback to yourself and employees. If they do a good job tell them.
