Pop Quiz, Monday with Argentina Beltran

I am very fortunate to have people in my team that are equally passionate as I am about the business. They’re creativity and enthusiasm in providing the best experience for our clients are truly inspiring.

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?

What do you love most about your job?
I love the creative freedom of being able to run my business how I see fit. I also love the control I have over how I choose to spend my time. Time is our biggest asset, and I love that I can choose to spend it doing what I love with people I care about.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
My eight-year-old twins Angeline & Gabriel are my biggest motivation. They inspire me always to be the best version of myself. gabe+angel was named after them.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
I am very fortunate to have people in my team that are equally passionate as I am about the business. They’re creativity and enthusiasm in providing the best experience for our clients are truly inspiring. We have lots of fun at work, and as a business owner, it makes me feel great when I hear them say that being at gabe+angel doesn’t feel like labour as they enjoy what they do and are appreciated for it.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
We are a very family, oriented team. We like incorporating our kids to a lot of our activities. We are not just co-workers, but we are family. We enjoy hanging out together outside of work. Ladies night, staying in or having a potluck or even doing karaoke.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
One of our most significant challenge currently that we are trying to resolve is our digital strategy. We are hoping to increase our online presence.

Also trying to figure out an integrated solution for our online store, booking system, inventory control and point of sales system has proven to be a bit tricky.

Lastly, growing the team with exceptional talents in a well to do area can also be very difficult as you have to source your talent outside of the community.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
The biggest lesson for me is to learn to delegate. Trust the people in your team. They’re there to help you and make your life better.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Do a lot of research. Find a similar business and try to learn from them. Find a mentor. Be bold in taking calculated risks.
