Pop Quiz, Monday with George Morice, Managing Partner at Prime Partners

George Morice

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?

What is your job role?
Managing Partner

Tell us about your company?
For years we struggled with this question. We know what we were not, a traditional accounting firm. Prime Partners is a digital-first accounting practice focused on business growth and transformation. We leverage the latest technologies and challenge conventional wisdom to partner with our clients to deliver sustainable, profitable growth for their businesses.

What do you love most about your job?
We make a significant difference in the lives of business owners. The owners of business live and breath their business. That means that when things are not going well, it not only impacts work but the founders lives. By giving the business stability and growth, we make fundamental impacts on the founders, the employees and partners lives

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
The people I work with. This is both the clients and the team here. We have an amazing team, and I see my role as giving them every opportunity to thrive in a challenging environment.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
In many ways, the two most prominent things thought would have to be the energy/ideas that they bring and the selflessness that they bring into the firm. The care they take for each other is amazing. Someone fails or has a tough time outside of work and the team goes out of their way to help out. I could not be more proud of the people here. We are in the people business, and they are an exceptional group.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
This is a tough one to define, and the office is always full of fun and noise. We always have a lot of staff-driven things going on, blood donation drives, fat Friday lunches, after work events. All these are important, but if I had to put the fun down to one thing, it would be the sharing in the office. People bring their personal life into our office and open up in an honest way. People are very willing to laugh at themselves.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
Keeping the energy focused in the right direction, a business like ours has a million different directions we could go, and we need to make sure the whole firm knows the path we are on.

The other one would be keeping up with technology, it is evolving rapidly, and we work hard to make sure we stay at the cutting edge.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Integrating companies sucks!! As much as you prepare for them and even if they go well it will be a tough time. A million questions will be asked so if you do a merger just make sure you leave a whole heap of your time free as you will be busy!

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Your people are your business, make sure you have amazing people around you and give them an opportunity to flourish and your firm will flourish as well. Don’t hold too tight and the thing no one can do things as well as you can. They may do things in a different way, but that doesn’t mean it is worse.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
