The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

What is your job role?
I am the Founder and Managing Director of SIXGUN, a Melbourne based digital marketing agency.

Tell us about your company?
SIXGUN is a tech-driven digital marketing agency. We focus on getting our clients exceptional results, staying at the cutting edge of best industry practice.

What do you love most about your job?
I love the satisfaction of seeing our clients’ organisations grow, and watching my motivated staff grow in their roles, delivering great results and taking on more responsibilities.

What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
I am always motivated by the charity work we do. We sponsor an animal at Edgar’s Mission for every employee we have. I have personally visited Edgar’s Mission many times and am always inspired by the fantastic work Pam Ahern and the team does in rescuing animals and giving them a safe, loving, beautiful home. I highly recommend visiting!

How do your co-workers inspire you?
Part of SIXGUN’s culture is to hire the best people, so our staff is all inspirational in themselves. Their work ethic and commitment to excellent work are fantastic. One of my favourite sayings is; ‘As iron sharpens iron, so does one man sharpen another.’ They sharpen me.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
We have a culture of hard work and fun. We get lots done, but we all get along really well and are often laughing and joking around. It makes coming to work each day very enjoyable.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
Finding the right talent. I’ve worked hard to find great quality people, and I’m always looking for more. It can be a challenge.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
I’ve learned to make sure that clients are a good fit; that their values are aligned with ours. When you don’t, issues can arise later on.

What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Become a master at your craft before you go out on your own. Digital marketing is an unregulated industry, and many people sell services despite not knowing what they’re doing. Become exceptionally good at what you do, and you will stand out.
