The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.
I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.
Can you please tell everyone your name?
What is your job role?
Tell us about your company?
I help business owners grow their profits, understand their numbers and stress less about cash.
What do you love most about your job?
I get to talk with interesting people about my passion (business) and have flexible hours so I can spend time with my family.
What motivates you to get up every day and go to work?
Helping more business owners! I love what I do. That helps on the days where I’ve pushed my comfort zone (business is excellent for that!) and might want to sleep in a bit longer.
How do your co-workers inspire you?
I have a mastermind call every week or two with friends who are business owners, where we inspire and support each other. We share tactical advice too, but the mental/emotional support and cheerleading are invaluable.
How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
Chatting with business friends, listening to music, the occasional meme.
What are some of the challenges of your job?
Working from home suits me. I like peace and quiet, it’s quicker to get to work, and it’s cheaper than an office. However, I need to put effort into getting a social outlet with other business owners, so I don’t get lonely.
What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
Hah, this would be my recent website revamp. I have a little programming background, so I can make a site appear any way I want. The problem, I finally admitted, was that I don’t have design skills. So I hired a professional, and I’m thrilled with my new website. The lesson: resist the urge to save money by doing things yourself.
What advice would you give to someone who is starting in your industry?
Focus on signing up clients/customers as your number 1 priority. Don’t waste time worrying about a business name, logo, website, social media account, blog posts, etc., etc., etc. They can be done later, and they’re often a way to procrastinate. Just get your first few clients/customers through your network. Other advice: talk to potential customers about their challenges, and design your service and marketing around that.
Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
