Pop Quiz, Monday with Lenoria Addison, CEO at OPENLTR

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

Can you please tell everyone your name?

What is your job role?
I am the CEO of OPENLTR, pronounced Open Letter and my job includes everything from setting company and product vision to strategy, operations, brand management, team building and fundraising.

Tell us about your company?
OPENLTR is a mobile app that empowers people to creatively express emotional challenges and crowdsource practical ways to heal based on peer recommendations. We are pre-launch to date.

What do you love most about your job?
What I love most about my job is creating a mission driven company founded to reduce human suffering and give everyone the power to build a meaningful.

What motivates you to get up everyday and go to work?
I think about my 16 year old self a lot having lost my mom at such a young age. My motivation is to help people navigate life despite emotional challenges and hardships that may occur. Thankfully my experiences have provided me much insight into what one needs to actually thrive emotionally in the world and I want to share that information with those who are struggling so that they too are able to succeed and live a meaningful life.

How do your co-workers inspire you?
My colleagues are naturally inquisitive. They are the types of people who challenge the world around them and I find that to be extremely inspiring.

How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?
Food is truly the way to a happier team and more fun work environment. My team is small right now, but making sure that we have food available during brainstorms or when we’re working on cognitively demanding tasks is a must.

What are some of the challenges of your job?
Some challenges of my job include making sure that I am creating a product of value and one that is user centric vs. one that is bias to my own ideals. This requires me to make tough decisions and eliminate nice to have features and really create a solution that solves a real user pain point.

What are some lessons learned from a past project that you can share with us?
People say this all the time and it’s true: work on something that you are extremely passionate about and solves a pain point in your own life, because when times get tough you’ll need to leverage that passion and persevere. Additionally, create a strategy and metrics to track your progress and product success. This will ensure that you are tracking along.

What advice would you give to some one who is starting out in your industry?
I don’t have specific advice for someone starting out in my industry, but I do have advice for entrepreneurs, Make sure to surround yourself with other entrepreneurs who can be of emotional support to you as you ride the highs and lows and please prioritize your health and personal wellbeing in the same way you prioritize your company.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
