Pop Quiz, Monday with Scott Rosenblum, President, and Founder at LEVEL PR

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

  1. Can you please tell everyone your name?

Scott Rosenblum

2. Tell us about your business and what you do?

I am the President, and Founder of LEVEL PR and my company focuses on communications/PR needs for tech startups. We work with fintech, e-commerce/retail tech and an everything in-between to help them get the media coverage they want to get the customers and investors they need.

3. Why did you want to become an entrepreneur?

Being an entrepreneur was not initially a goal of mine, as it is something that I kind of fell into. However, I now find it impossible to imagine working for someone else again, which is similar to the way I feel about doing PR for almost 20 years — hard to imagine doing anything else for a living.

4. What are the challenging aspects of running a business?

My biggest challenge is finding the time to wear the many hats that an entrepreneur needs to wear. I have to juggle client relations/servicing, marketing, sales, administrative and operational duties, often times in the same day. Nothing unusual for most young businesses, but it’s still a bit of a paradigm shift compared to my agency days. The positive is that every day is a new learning experience!

5. What do you love most about your job?

What I love most about running my own company is the flexibility I could never have when I worked for someone else. If there is a holiday that I want/need to take that I could never get off for in the past, I can do it. This kind of freedom is worth the price of admission alone.

6. How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?

Spotify streaming through my JBL speaker all the time, except for conference calls. Whether it’s hip-hop, indie rock, R&B, ambient or whatever, the music always keeps me going and is usually a reflection of my mood. No country music though.

7. What would one piece of advice that you give to a new business owner?

Give yourself a break! Most entrepreneurs find that their harshest critics are often themselves and I am no exception to the rule. If you can give yourself some slack and the benefit of the doubt (especially in the early days of your business), you will find you can move past the losses much quicker and enjoy the wins even more.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
