Pop Quiz, Monday with Danielle Candela, Founder & CEO at Tote Taxi

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you cannot learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

1. Can you please tell everyone your name?

Danielle Candela

2. Tell us about your business and what you do?

My business Tote Taxi, offers same-day, door-to-door service for luggage, golf clubs & bikes from NYC to the Hamptons. I’m the Founder & CEO.

3. Why did you want to become an entrepreneur?

My Dad runs his own business, and I saw that with much hard work he was able to provide a stable life for my family. At a young age, it was something that always inspired me to do the same.

4. What are the challenging aspects of running a business?

You’ve got to be able to wear many hats. Most businesses don’t start with the funds to hire a team to handle social media, logistics, accounting, etc. Even if you can afford it early on, as the owner of the business, it’s up to you to make the final call — whether you have a strong background in that field or not.

5. What do you love most about your job?

I love that I wake up every morning doing what I’m doing because I want to, not because someone else says I have to. I’ve never enjoyed being micromanaged, and as the boss, I can do things on my terms. I know what’s best for me and what makes the most sense for the business. I also love being creative, working with other companies that align with what I’m doing and coming up with fresh and innovative ways to work together.

6. How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?

Right now my team is pretty small, but in NYC and the Hamptons, we love going to dinner to celebrate wins or team bonding experiences like hiking on Shelter Island.

7. What would one piece of advice that you give to a new business owner?

Be careful whom you surround yourself with. It’s scary sometimes, and you think you need a safety net, but trust your gut.

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
