Pop Quiz, Monday with Kate Titchmarsh, Founder & Managing Director at FLASHBULB

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

1. Can you please tell everyone your name?

Kate Titchmarsh

AKA ‘Toby’s mum’

2. Tell us about your business and what you do?

I am the founder and Managing Director of Flashbulb, a specialist property communications consultancy that helps clients successfully manage their brand reputation in order to achieve their commercial objectives.

Our experienced team works hand-in-hand with companies of all sizes, providing tailored communications campaigns to support business development.

(elevator pitch!)

3. Why did you want to become an entrepreneur?

I never think of myself as an entrepreneur….Until someone asks me what it’s like.

Before starting Flashbulb, I had experience of working in both a small team and a large corporation, picking up a fair bit on how to do things and definitely how not to do things!

Ultimately, running my own business meant I could leave behind the restraints that inhibited me from doing the best job I can for my clients and for my team.

4. What are the challenging aspects of running a business?

Switching off! It never happens, I’m always thinking about work. I have learnt some great mindfulness techniques for pushing work thoughts to the side when I need to.

5. What do you love most about your job?

The property industry is such a fabulous, sociably industry, with some of the best people I have ever met (including my other half) you can’t fail to love it. We are hiring! Come and join us!

6. How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?

We have been known, on occasion, to have a team bonding session over lunch or a few drinks.

Also, our office is in Chiswick Park which always has something going on…beach volleyball, dj, street market…

7. What would one piece of advice that you give to a new business owner?

Delegate wherever you can. But don’t be above doing any job you would ask one of your team to do. Look after your team members. Great employees are hard to come by.
