Pop Quiz, Monday with Casey Benedict, CEO and Founder of Kitchen PLAY

The Pop Quiz, Monday is a fun little exam that we love to give to savvy business owners. The examination is not a surprise after all since the interviewee already knew about the questions in advance. However, we can always pretend and have fun with the scenario of a young entrepreneur sitting in class nervously biting on their pencil. They are ready to take a pop quiz on a chapter that they were supposed to read the night before. Instead, they played Metroid all night on their SNES (Oops, this was me in high school). The real purpose of the pop quiz is that this is a fun way to introduce business tips from real-world experiences that you can not learn in a classroom. We want to thank our entrepreneur for being a good sport and volunteering their time to answer a few questions to help our community grow from their knowledge.

I want to introduce you to our guest today who will be taking our Pop Quiz Monday.

  1. Can you please tell everyone your name?

Casey Benedict

2. Tell us about your business and what you do?

I’m CEO and Founder of Kitchen PLAY. We are the go-to authority on working with influencers in the food and beverage space.

Brands come to us when they are overwhelmed and under-equipped to handle the multiple touchpoints and intricacies of influencer marketing. We develop enterprise-level programming for national and global brands, agricultural commodities and marketing agencies. Our specialty lies in managing all phases of ideation, roll out, reporting and financials so that our clients enjoy the process while being able to reclaim their time for other account work.

3. Why did you want to become an entrepreneur?

I didn’t set out to be an entrepreneur. Rather, I’m an innovator, and I had an idea for a solution that would benefit a community and industry that I loved (food blogging!). When I followed where that idea took me, and brands resonated with my solution, voila! I became an entrepreneur.

4. What are the challenging aspects of running a business?

Maintaining a balance between the big picture and the daily demands. Both are important, exciting and exacting. It’s easy to get lost in one component and throw your momentum out of kilter.

5. What do you love most about your job?

Making things happen. Bringing ideas and concepts to life.

6. How do you have fun at work (team building, pranks, etc..)?

I literally get to talk about, think about (and sometimes eat!) food all day long, with other people who are just as geeked about food as I am. What could be more fun than that?!

7. What would one piece of advice that you give to a new business owner?

Find a guide or a mentor immediately if not sooner. Building a business is a lonely, isolating journey (even if you have employees or a team in place). Connect with someone who has been in your shoes and who is willing to be a sounding board for you. Then use that resource wisely!

Thank you for taking our pop quiz today. You get an A+ for effort. You can learn more about our interviewee and their business by visiting them on the web:
